Various Jobs in Railways: Preparation Guidance for Group-D

Indian Railways occupy 4th largest place in the world. It is the largest public sector under taking of the country.Indian Railways have 17 Railway zones. Jobs in Railway can be divided in to four groups. They are Group-A,Group-B, Group-C, Group-D

Group-D: Under this category, three types of Jobs are there.

Name of the posts: Trackman, Points man, sapaiwala etc.
Qualification: 10th class
Recruitment agency: RRC (Railway Recruitment Cell)
Mode of Selection: There are two stages in mode of selection.
The first step is Written Examination
second Physical efficiency Test (PET)


Written Examination: Maximum marks in this examination 100-150. There are 100 to 150 Questions and each question carries one mark. And each wrong answer attracts 0.33 negative mark i.e., for every 3 wrong Answers 1 mark is deducted from your correct answers.

Syllabus is divided in to three parts. They are,
a) General awareness (40)
b) Numerical ability (30 marks)
c) General Intelligences & Reasoning (30 marks)

General awareness: It carries 40 marks. The questions appeared in this section are from Indian History, Indian and World Geography, Polity, General Science and Current Affairs.Indian History: Concentrate of ancient India, medieval India & National Movement. Most of the questions are asked from these topics only.

Numerical Ability: Number system, fractions, simplification, ratio & proportion, percentage, maceration, simple, compound interest time & distance, Time and work etc.

General Intelligence and Reasoning: It consists of verbal and non-verbal topics In verbal: Number series, analogy, classification, direction, coding –de coding Non-verbal series: Classification, cubes & dice, Venn-diagrams

Physical Efficiency Test (PET): who ever qualified in written exam can attend ‘PET’ where 1000 meters
should be run in 10 minutes.
